The gear shift in a car is used to change the transmission's gear ratio, which in turn changes the speed and power of the vehicle. In a manual transmission, the gear shift is typically a lever that the driver moves to select the desired gear, such as first, second, third, etc. In an automatic transmission, the gear shift is usually a lever or knob that the driver moves to select between park, reverse, neutral, drive, and sometimes other options like sport mode or manual shifting. When the gear shift is moved, it engages different gears within the transmission to change the speed and power output of the vehicle. **
